Tanya Bub
Tanya Bub is an eco-artist, sculptor, and community arts leader based in Victoria, British Columbia. Her vibrant practice heavily reflects a deep connection to the environment, bringing a stunning, lifelike quality to her subjects through reclaimed materials gathered across the Pacific Northwest and Vancouver Island.
Bub specializes in nature-inspired, highly expressive sculptures of wild animals and human figures. Her distinct aesthetic beautifully bridges the gap between raw organic form and fluid intuition, utilizing found beach driftwood, wire, cardboard, and paper-mâché to capture a tangible spirit of life. Throughout her process, she thoughtfully contemplates the history of her materials, resurrecting thousands of unique fragments into whimsical, textured creations that explore themes of environmental interconnectedness and shared humanity.
Born with a passion for both science and the arts, Bub graduated from McGill University with a degree in the philosophy of science and studied oil painting and ceramics at Vancouver’s Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Driven by a desire to uplift the local creative scene, she is the founder of The Art Hub—a unique, artist-run gallery space in downtown Victoria—where she works alongside her active studio practice to foster spaces for community connection, storytelling, and collaboration.
