Andrew Gibbs
Andrew Gibbs is a contemporary Canadian painter and art educator based in Victoria, British Columbia. With a career spanning over 30 years, his vibrant practice reflects a deep love for the natural landscapes of the Pacific Northwest and Vancouver Island.
Gibbs specializes in nature-inspired abstract and representational oil paintings. His aesthetic bridges structured representation and fluid intuition, using layered mark-making and organic matter—like seed pods, leaves, and twigs—to create heavily textured, expressive surfaces. Recently, his focus has turned toward large-scale West Coast landscapes and plein air series that capture the region's shifting light.
Born on Vancouver Island, Gibbs graduated with a degree in Visual Arts from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in 2004. Alongside his studio practice, he is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of local talent, sharing his passion as an art educator at St. Andrew's Regional High School.
