CAMERON MARTIN
Cameron Martin is an acrylic painter based in Victoria, British Columbia. With the use of palette knives, brushes and paint pens, his recent work often emphasizes the dramatic use of light, a subject he also explores in his photography. Martin's art stems primarily from his captivation with the vibrant lights and sounds of the city, and he aims to have the viewers feel like they're living inside the painting, much like he did during his own urban travels.
A graduate of the Victoria College of Art, Martin draws inspiration from his travels and experiences, converting real-world landscapes and urban memories into textured, atmospheric paintings. By making his pieces about his personal experiences, he intends to add an element of realness in an era of growing artificiality. For Martin, a painting isn't just an art piece, it has a genuine story behind it, whether it depicts a specific destination or a broader personal journey.
"In a world obsessed with the growing uncertainty, fabrication and artificial intelligence, I want to make things that have personal meaning. Something that's a part of me. When someone views one of my pieces, I want them to feel like they're experiencing or even owning a part of my life. It's important to me to share my experiences, using my art as a vehicle."
